Today: ”We are all students and teachers at varying levels. ” – a reading from the I Ching

We are all students and teachers at varying levels.  What level is an internal thing that we must recognize.  It comes from how we relate with self and others in the moment.

The Superior Person refines his character by being thorough in every activity.
The Sage does not recruit students; the students seek him.  He asks nothing but a sincere desire to learn.  If the student doubts or challenges his authority, the Sage regretfully cuts his losses.
This is a time of interchange between a mentor and pupil.  Whether you are the teacher or the student, it is a time of companionship along a mutual path.  This hexagram also emphasizes the eternal, cyclical nature of the mentor/student relationship — a mentor is merely a more seasoned pupil, further along on the journey.  A pupil holds within himself the seed of a future Master.

Whirlwinds and Thunder:
When the Superior Person encounters saintly behavior, he adopts it; when he encounters a fault within, he transforms it.
Progress in every endeavor.  You may cross to the far shore.
Get ready to ride a tide of accelerated growth toward self-actualization.  A joyful awareness of the best within you, coupled with an acceptance of your Shadow, will provide a greater repertoire, a much bolder vision, and new depth and clarity that will compel you to expand your horizons.
Sacrifice on the part of those above for the increase of those below fills the people with a sense of joy and gratitude that is extremely valuable for the flowering of the commonwealth. When people are thus devoted to their leaders, undertakings are possible, and even difficult and dangerous enterprises will succeed. Therefore in such times of progress and successful development it is necessary to work and make the best use of the time. This time resembles that of the marriage of heaven and earth, when the earth partakes of the creative power of heaven, forming and bringing forth living beings.
While observing how thunder and wind increase and strengthen each other, a man can note the way to self-increase and self-improvement. When he discovers good in others, he should imitate it and thus make everything on earth his own. If he perceives something bad in himself, let him rid himself of it. In this way he becomes free of evil. This ethical change represents the most important increase of personality.

Fire rises hot and bright from the Wood beneath the sacrificial caldron:
The Superior Person positions himself correctly within the flow of Cosmic forces.
Supreme Accomplishment.
Your needs are coming into harmony with the requirements of the Cosmos.
Blending brilliantly with the Dance of Life, you are becoming an actual element of Cosmic Law.
Your goals will now be realized because you no longer cut against the Cosmic grain; you are no longer swimming against the flow of the Tao.
You are acquiring an intuitive sense of what can and cannot be, and aligning your efforts accordingly.

The time is favorable – a time of strength within, clarity and culture without. Power is expressing itself in a graceful and controlled way. This brings supreme success and wealth.
You have become an instrument of Heaven’s will, offering a balance in the world around you.  It is not swashbuckling prowess or uncanny talent that qualifies you for this office, but your simplest gifts — your modesty, your compassion, your economy.  Because you can see clearly who most needs a miracle, Heaven’s bounty is being put at your disposal.

Recap: Healing and Meditation Class at Yoga West with Hari Nam Singh 2018-12-10-The Hukam

The hukam

We held a workshop at Yoga West on December 10, 2018.  We performed a meditation to identify with only the self, allowing all features of the perceptive field to unify into a coherent internal context that is free of bias and personal prejudice.  It is an exercise in merging perception with the reality.

Stabilize identification with only the self:

Meditation: NM360-20000913 – Making a Mold – White Hole Mudra

We performed exercises in recognizing the role of contemplation in healing and teaching.  As a teaching protocol, we call it consulting the ‘hukam”.  Rather than teaching a preplanned topic or meditation with a preconceived goal, the hukam can tell us what wants to be taught.  For healing, what wants to be healed and how.

We engaged an exercise where healing partners spoke a statement or question to their partner.  Then the other responded to the statement.  We repeated the exercise, this time only responding after contemplating the reaction to the original statement and choosing a response modified by the contemplation. Finally, the person hearing the original statement contemplated the reaction until no more reaction was perceived.  Then spoke the response.

We then performed healing exercises that employed the use of contemplation in this way.

Class audio:

We pointed out that this class started out much the same way as last week’s class, but evolved in a very different direction.  That’s a result of using the hukam.

Beneath the Soil, the Seedling pushes upward toward the light:
To preserve his integrity, the Superior Person contents himself with small gains that eventually lead to great accomplishment.
Supreme Success.
Have no doubts.  Seek guidance from someone you respect.  A constant move toward greater clarity will bring reward.  You are progressing, rising inch-by-inch toward certain success.  What makes this assured is your refusal to tilt headlong toward your goal, slamming into obstacles and going mad with frustration.  You have a clear map before you of the steps necessary to reach your objective.  With faithful patience and a careful conservation of personal energy and resources, you will run this long, slow distance.
When a man is advancing farther and farther, it is important for him not to become intoxicated by success. Precisely when he experiences great success it is necessary to remain sober and not to try to skip any stages; he must go on slowly, step by step, as though hesitant. Only such calm, steady progress, overleaping nothing, leads to the goal.
WAITING is not mere empty hoping. It has the inner certainty of reaching the goal. Such certainty alone gives that light which leads to success. This leads to the perseverance that brings good fortune and bestows power to cross the great water. One is faced with a danger that has to be overcome. Weakness and impatience can do nothing. Only a strong man can stand up to his fate, for his inner security enables him to endure to the end. This strength shows itself in uncompromising truthfulness [with himself]. It is only when we have the courage to face things exactly as they are, without any sort of self- deception or illusion, that a light will develop out of events, by which the path to success may be recognized. This recognition must be followed by resolute and persevering action. For only the man who goes to meet his fate resolutely is equipped to deal with it adequately. Then he will be able to cross the great water – that is to say, he will be capable of making the necessary decision and of surmounting the danger.

The Superior Person avoids the petty and superficial by keeping shallow men at a distance, not in anger but with dignity.  Such a retreat sweeps the path clear to Success.
Occupy yourself with minute detail.  Retreat in this instance is not a desperate flight in disarray, but a conscious choice to distance yourself from forces that would rob you of your peace. It is not a surrender, but a regrouping.  Retreat from this conflict is actually an advance toward your own center.  You move toward balance, and thus a much stronger position.
In a retreat it is advantageous to be at the front. Here one is at the back, in immediate contact with the pursuing enemy. This is dangerous, and under such circumstances it is not advisable to undertake anything. Keeping still is the easiest way of escaping from the threatening danger.
This is a matter of Positioning — not only yourself, but others as well.
There are niches to be filled, potentials to be realized, right livelihoods to be found.  You are not building a new organization, but shoring up an existing infrastructure.  It’s worth the effort, because it will provide union, community, and an ironclad alliance.

Today: “By construction, the fulfillment of a woman is motherhood” – Yogi Bhajan

“By construction, the fulfillment of a woman is motherhood; and motherhood does not mean that she gets pregnant and delivers a baby. If you understand her total behavior, you will understand her motherhood. Her motherhood is service, her motherhood is sacrifice, her motherhood is relationship. When she knows motherhood, she is fulfilled. But when she becomes a partner with man she shares equally.” Yogi Bhajan

Wisdom – Open the Capillaries: take a cold, cold shower first thing in the morning – Yogi Bhajan

So the best way to open capillaries, is get under cold shower LA and water is not cold enough. New York, New Mexico, (?) and what is that? There is a story and I will cut short that, somebody was very sick, he came to Guru Ji, he said, “You know, I am very sick, I don’t know what to do, I am dying.”

He said, “Go to Ganges and do six months there prayer.”

He said, “Thank you.”

So somehow (?) he reached the Hardwar, water comes, you know, ice cold, so the ceremony is, you go into the Ganga, Har Har Ganga, you sit, you come out, 108 time, you have to do that, so each time you go in, you massage his body, you come up, six months later, he was just a (?), everything was fine. Because hydrotherapy still (?) exercise. So all capillaries get opened, blood rushes from inside, outside, skin became bright and beautiful, all organs went right, Har Har Ganga was the way of life and he was very healthy.

He came to Guru Ji, he said, “I am very good.”

I said, “That’s normal.”

Now at home, take the same way the bath and the ladies who have breast cancer are going to get the breast cancer and get mammogram and this gram (?). Stand before the shower, cold shower and massage your breast so the circulatory blood may change and capillaries may remain open, you shall not be touched disease cannot even touch you. If all body’s capillary (?). Just remember, those few minutes of cold shower and body massage, there is a system to it, in hydrotherapy we say, you go under the shower and it’s very cold and then you take all the body out, come back. Massage your body, massage it with your, it’s a hydro massage we call it and go under again, it will be less cold this time. Finally, you know the fifth time, you can stand under the same cold shower and you will not feel cold. I can guarantee you. That means, touchwood, you will never get sick.

No matter what you do, the fruit of your labors never seems to ripen.
Your reward remains just out of reach.  Men have gone mad from such anticipation.  Don’t lose your balance lunging for the brass ring.
While the Fates continue to restrain you, go them one better and display a self-generated restraint and grace.  Look for the humor in the situation.
One would like to press forward, but before going farther one sees from the example of others like oneself that this way is blocked. In such a case, if the effort to push forward is not in harmony with the time, a reasonable and resolute man will not expose himself to a personal rebuff, but will retreat with others of like mind. This brings good fortune, because he does not needlessly jeopardise himself.
The Obstacle lies in obstinance.  An insistence on only one way of proceeding has brought things to an impasse.  You may either continue banging your head with irresistible force against this immovable object, or you might step back and survey this situation from a fresh perspective.
